چکیده

We report the first measurement of average electron-proton and positron-proton elastic scattering cross sections. This lepton charge-averaged section is insensitive to leading effects hard two-photon exchange, giving more robust access proton’s electromagnetic form factors. The was extracted from data taken by OLYMPUS experiment at DESY, in which alternating stored electron positron beams were scattered a windowless gaseous hydrogen target. Elastic events identified coincident detection recoil proton large-acceptance toroidal spectrometer. luminosity determined rates Møller, Bhabha, forward calorimeters. provide some selectivity between existing factor global fits will valuable constraints future fits.Received 13 August 2020Revised 17 March 2021Accepted 23 2021DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.126.162501© 2021 American Physical SocietyPhysics Subject Headings (PhySH)Research AreasElectron & scatteringPropertiesForm factorsNuclear Physics

Quasi-elastic Scattering Cross Section

Using high statistics samples of charged current interactions, MiniBooNE reports a model independent measurement of the single charged pion production to quasi-elastic cross section ratio on mineral oil without corrections for pion re-interactions in the target nucleus [1]. The result is provided as a function of neutrino energy in the range 0.4 GeV < E < 2.4 GeV with 11% precision in the regio...

Double-spin asymmetry in the cross section for exclusive ρ0 production in lepton–proton scattering

Evidence for a positive longitudinal double-spin asymmetry 〈Aρ1 〉 = 0.24 ± 0.11stat ± 0.02syst in the cross section for exclusive diffractive ρ0(770) vector–meson production in polarised lepton–proton scattering was observed by the HERMES experiment. The longitudinally polarised 27.56 GeV HERA positron beam was scattered off a longitudinally polarised pure hydrogen gas target. The average invar...

A Measurement of the QED Compton Cross Section in Electron-Proton Scattering with the H1 Experiment at HERA Dissertation

A measurement of the double differential leptonic QED Compton cross-section in positron-proton collisions is described. The kinematic range extends in xl from 1.8·10−5 to 1.78·10−3 and in Ql from 1.5 GeV2 to 85 GeV2. The data were accumulated with the H1 detector at the HERA storage ring in 1997, of which about 9.18 pb−1 of the integrated luminosity in that year were included in this analysis. ...

Precision Measurement of the Proton Elastic Cross Section at High Q

Using the base experimental equipment for Hall A, and beam energies of 6.6, 8.8, and 11 GeV, we propose to measure the proton elastic cross section to a statistical precision of better than 1% over a Q2 range of 7–17.5 GeV2. A few items of general purpose instrumentation are proposed to ensure that the total uncertainty will be below 2%. The resulting measurement will provide means for extracti...

The MOLLER Experiment Measurement Of Lepton Lepton Elastic Reactions An Ultra-precise Measurement of the Weak Mixing Angle using Møller Scattering

The upgraded 11 GeV CEBAF polarized electron beam presents a compelling opportunity to measure a weak neutral current amplitude to unprecedented precision at Q ! M Z . The result would yield a precise measurement of the weak mixing angle sin θW , a fundamental parameter of the electroweak theory. The experimental goal of δ(sin θW ) ∼ 0.1%, matching the accuracy of the two single best measuremen...
